Free Sunday Post

Possible poster for HeroesCon in Charlotte NC (cropping will be needed, of course)

A Quick Note

Hey, everyone. Just wanted do post this so today you wouldn't think I gave up on the blog again. I am going to stick with it this time, unlike the numerous times I tried to get off the Coca-Cola habit. I'll get that monkey off my back someday.

But I digress.

I came up with a plan for the blog. I'm going to write a new post five days a week, Monday through Friday. The posts will mostly go up in the late evening, because I usually get home from work by 7pm, then eat, and then I'll blog away like it's nobody's business. If I happen to post something over the weekend, I'll be sure to let the world know through my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Well, that's about it. So, to sum up:

● I will be posting Monday through Friday.

● Posts will normally go up in the late evening (after 8pm)

● If I post over the weekend, you will be notified via social media

● I'm addicted to Coca-Cola

Oh, here's how to reach me:

Facebook: Ozymandias Books

Twitter: @OzymandiasBooks

Instagram: Ozymandias_26

I wanted to mention that the line "But I digress" is taken from renowned comic book writer/editor Dennis O'Neil. He is probably most famous (to me, anyway) for his years as the editor for the Batman books, but he also wrote several series for Marvel and DC Comics. When I was reading the Batman comics in the late Eighties-early Nineties, he would have a column each month talking about various subjects. There would always be a point in the article where he would dinish a thought, skip a line, write "But I digress", skip another line, and start a new subject, kind of like what I did above. I hope he doesn't mind me using it now. It is done with total respect.

And, finally, check out my first graphic novel (oh, there will be more), SAVE ME, at Amazon.com. To find it qiuckly, search save me charlie stubblefield. Be sure to leave a good review, and recommend the book to anyone you can think of.

Um, that's it. Later.

The One About Bipolar Depression

Hey, everyone. Just to be clear (I know this is my 4th post, but bear with me), this blog isn't exactly organized to a "T", if you can't tell that already. My goal is to try to write something interesting about my work, or bipolar depression, or whatever is floating around in my little brain on any given day. Just because the blog is called "Charlie's Graphic Novel" doesn't mean that's all I'm going to talk about, although it will be the main subject. Just wanted to get that out there.

On to today's topic. I was thinking I'd talk a little about bipolar depression. (I told you this wouldnt always be about graphic novels.) Don't worry...I'll do my best not to make it some dry essay, but it probably won't be very funny, either.

So...what is bipolar depression? Basically, it's the low side of bipolar disorder, which is also known as  manic-depressive disorder (although I believe that name isn't used anymore).

Here's a list of the symptoms (you knew there was going to be a list, right?):

● Persistent sadness, anxiousness, or emptiness

● Feelings of hopelessness

● Feelings of guilt and worthlessness

● Fatigue or decreased energy

● Irritability and restlessness

● Difficulty concentrating

● Distractedness

● Anger

I have experienced all these symptoms, and luckily, not all at the same time, or in the same amounts. I particularly had a lot of anger, something I'm still struggling with the most out of these symptoms.

Like I said, I just wanted to give a quick overview. Hope that helps some. If you want more info, there's plenty out there on the interwebs. And please, please, PLEASE talk to someone if you have any of these symptoms. Whether it be a professional therapist, or family member, or close friend, talk to them.

Eventually, though, you should really seek professional help. I did, and it really works, once you find the right therapist and/or doctor. It took me two tries to find the right therapist. You might need medication...or you might not. Your therapist should be able to recommend a doctor to help you find out. Since I have is clinical depression (a chemical imbalance), I take medication, although we - meaning my doctor and I - are trying to minimize that as much as possible. Coincidentally enough, it took me two tries to find the right doctor, too.

Okay, that's all for today. I feel a little worn out, but I hope this helps you understand bipolar depression.

Please leave comments below, if you feel the need.

Later, kids.

A little about myself

When I started working on this book, the only thing I was interested in was, well, creating a graphic novel, obviously. It was just supposed to be for me, to say that I accomplished something I had always wanted to do.

When I say that, I mean that I always wanted to make soemething "creative" since I was a little bitty kid.  In fact, I used draw or write something almost every day.

I would become obsessed with something, and write and/or draw about that subject until I found something else to obsess over. Things came and went, then came back again. Whether it be werewolves, vampires (this was waaaay before "Twilight"), ghosts, UFOs...well, you get the idea. There were other things I can't think of at the moment, but the paranormal / supernatural stuff always came back.

I do the same thing today, I just don't get as obsessed as I used to (at least, that's what I tell myself). My main thing these days is superheroes, and classical mythology. My goal is to one day do a story that draws from both...that hasn't been done before. Good luck with that, right?

Anyway, when I was diagnosed with bipolar depression, I became obsessed with it, naturally. I looked up the symptoms, mainly to find out for myself if the diagnosis was correct. Turns out, the doctor knew what he was talking about. Heh, heh.

Well, one day I was lying in bed, waiting for sleep to overtake me (because I was depressed / bored) when I was struck by creative lightning:

1.) I love superheroes, and

2.) I had learned a lot about bipolar depression, so

I'll do a story about a superhero with bipolar depression! Made sense to me.

Throw in a love story, and a year later...well, I'll fill in some of the blanks next time.

TTFN!

One year later...

Sorry for not posting since last year (to the day, in fact). I've been just a little busy working on my graphic novel, Save Me. Now that it's finished (!), I can talk about it and other things that come up.

Let's talk about Save Me first. After some ups and downs - mainly fixing small things, like words squished together, or sometimes spelled wrong - it was officially finished on April 14, and posted on Amazon.com the next day.  Here's the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Save-Me-Charlie-Stubblefield/dp/0692653759/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1461685737&sr=8-1&keywords=Save+me+charlie+Stubblefield

If that link doesn't work for some reason, go to www.amazon.com, and search for "Save Me Charlie Stubblefield" (no quotes). That will definitely get you there.

Well, that's it for today, folks. Hope you check out the book, and I'll talk to you soon. Later.
